@LentiniJoe If you like to shoot in Manual, good for you. But why make life difficult? A lot of young photographers feel they have something to prove by mastering manual - I know I did at your age. But when you get older, you care more about getting the photo you want and not wanting the camera or technique to get in the way. Using program shift or semi-auto modes like Aperture Priority will let you achieve 99% of the shots you want to take, but faster, thereby not potentially missing the moment

hi, great info as always, i have the problem that on the nights the background is always fine with the tripod but its very difficult to keep the persons steady, so at the end theres always some blur on their faces, i have read that the solution for this is to know how to use the flash built on or external, so, how works this? i would like to have a clear background and also clear faces using a tripod and long exposure. Its just possible with flash? if so, how? thanks in advance :D

@cameralabs Someone can't really say what good an bad mode, why? Because is personal. It don't matter how old you are or who expensive your gear. For example I'm used photographing manual, it gives me the power to control everything i want about my image. Btw my fully automatic is a pain the ass, because most of the time he descide to the flash. But if got move fast and light is changing a lot i do use my other modes. It depens on your style and your knowledge and the situation your in

Why are you telling people to open the aperture to the maximum possible? Most night shots will be scenery, when people want good dept of field.
